Finished Leaflets

The leaflets on teenage pregnancies are now finished! We are going to get in contact with a printing company now to get them printed off, and also work out how many of the leaflets we need printing. I'll e-mail the leaflet - along with a Powerpoint presentation on the 'Was It Really Worth It?' campaign - to Heather from Common Purpose tomorrow. We are going to hand these leaflets out in Fenham, and also see if we can put some in the local pool and library and some other schools in Fenham.

The Finals

With the CHANGEit award finals on May the 14th coming ever closer, we will have to start bringing all of our ideas together and decide which ones we will put into action. On the day of the finals, we have the opportunity to win £750 to fund our campaign. This will be extremely useful as the campaign needs advertising, and ideas - which cost money to finish - will all have to be paid for. Don't forget to vote whether you like our logo. You can do this by selecting your answer from the voting section at the top on the right-hand side of the page. Then click the vote button. We will appreciate it if you do vote, as we need as many votes as possible to work out whether the logo works or not.

Radio Stations

We are going to try and get our campaign noticed by local radio stations, and be interviewed by one to tell them about our campaign. The North East has many local radio stations. It will be important to choose a radio station that will probably be listened to by the people who are or will potentially be the focus of our campaign on teenage pregnancies.

Some positive feedback on the logo

We have recently received some positve feedback on the blog. The following are from anonymous sources.
"I think that the cartoon of the stalk is a great choice. I also like the colours on the blog -blue for a boy and pink for a girl".

And another, "I think the logo is very good and is a neat design".

Finally from us, there is not long left to vote whether you like the logo or not, so if you haven't voted yet, Get voting!!! (Poll closes 10th May)

Printing

We have been contacted by Paul from Prontaprint in Durham and he says he will see what kind of deal he can give us for printing the leaflets. I'll contact him once I've finished the leaflet design (definately by the end of this week).

Leaflet Printing

We are going to look around for the best deal we can get for printing some leaflets to hand out. We'll have a look at Prontaprint's prices and deals but it will also be a good idea to look at some smaller printing companies in the Newcastle-Gateshead-Durham area. I noticed yesterday a printing shop near Newcastle's Central Station which printed 1000 A4 double-sided leaflets for £95. This works out at less than 10p per print! I will continue to look around and search the web for any better prices though. We'll tell you which printing service we have chosen when we have had a look and compared these prices.

Meanwhile, I was doing some research for the leaflets I am designing and I am amazed at some of the figures I found about the number of under 18 girls who get pregnant. The group already know a lot on the subject of teenage pregnancies from previous research and knowledge, but many of these numbers were huge!

One problem of teenage pregnancies

'Kizzy Neal was 13 when she became pregnant with her son, Kaylib. She feels she did not receive adequate sex education.' This is just one example of the problems of teenage pregnancies in Britain that we are attempting to resolve. This was taken
from the telegraph website.

Leaflets and School

We are currently designing leaflets to distribute in Fenham. We are going to find out how much it will cost to have these leaflets printed professionally. Our group have also spoken to our principal and the school's Public Relations lady, and we intend to get our campaign noticed by local newspapers and radio stations. On the training day in London, the group was taught how to deal with the media in an interview.

The Logo

The logo for the 'Was it Really Worth it?' campaign is a Crane carrying a baby in a bundle. This was chosen because it shows how unexpected a baby can be. Please leave your thoughts on the opposite poll
